Halloween Countdown Day 24 - They Walk Among You (1981)

Greetings boils and ghouls, I do hope your days have been putridly pleasant so far. Today I have yet another album, which is so obscure that I might as well have a tattoo of a mustache on my forefinger. That is the 'in' thing today right? Mustache finger tattoos?

Ah, but what record am I referring too? A little known EP called They Walk Among You from an even lesser known band called New Math. You'll find no complicated time-switching math rock here, nor extended stoner jam sessions. What you do get sounds remarkably like The Horrors (at least from their pre-Skying days). They Walk Among You embraces electronica and sounds a bit like French Coldwave of the late 1970s while embracing a bit of the Horror Punk vibe that the Misfits popularized.

But seriously, I can't find much of anything about these guys, except at they are from Rochester NY, and at one point they changed their name to Jet Black Berries where they released Sundown on Venus (which I'm told doesn't sound like anything on They Walk Among You)...instead think of a spaghetti western soundtrack mixed with space-rock. As neat as that is, New Math/Jet Black Berries wouldn't be on this list if they didn't produce some chillers, and that they did.

My two favorite tracks from them include 'Love Under Will' which you may recognize from Return of the Living Dead and of course the title track from the EP, They Walk Among You with a brilliantly cut accompanying video.

While I'd love to embed the video, it looks like you kiddies are going to have to get it the old fashioned way, by clicking on the linked text. Both tracks are certainly a Halloween playlist staple, or at the very least deserve a listen. Also, I'll give my left leg to anyone who can find out something more about New Math/Jet Black Berries. Just be sure to give me your address so I can send it to you. I'd hate for it to get lost in the mail.

Enjoy the tunes, and as always, until next time kiddies.
