The Colonel's Picks For January 9th, 2013

This is a great week for comics! Quality stuff from all the major publishers and interesting goodies from the indie crowd as well. And after that last dust-up with Paula Deen, the Colonel's gonna need some quality reading material to help him unwind. Here's what your dear old uncle Orville will be popping this week:

Star Wars #1 (Dark Horse)
Brian Wood (of DMZ & Northlanders fame) is bringing the Rebellion Era back in a big way. Art by Carlos D'Anda and a cover by Alex Ross ensure the visuals with up to snuff. Who knows how long this sweet series is gonna last with the Star Wars stuff reverting to the Marvel banner in the near future, so let's enjoy it while we can.

Action Comics #16 (DC)
Readers following this title may've thought they saw the last of the multidimensional menace Superdoom when the Obama-Superman of Earth-23 banished him to the Bleed back in issue nine. If only our Big Blue could be so lucky. This will be the penultimate issue of Grant Morrison's run on Action Comics and he's one writer who loves to leave on a high note. The imcomparable Rags Morales provides the pencils for this throwdown, so cancel your CPL service and tell 'em you're running on Rags Power now baby!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Secret History Of The Foot Clan #1 (IDW)
The sure-to-be blood soaked story of betrayal and ascension that formed the world-famous foot soldiers that have plagued the Turtles ever since their very earliest incarnation. You can bet that no-goodnik Shredder will make an appearance as well. Brought to you courtesy of Mateus Santolouco and elite comic art master Raphael Grampa.

Repossessed #1 (Image)
In a world where demon possessions are commonplace, somebody is bound to find a way to make a living recollecting host bodies. Writer/artist JM Ringuet presents the story of some blue collar Repo-Men who bring home the bacon doing exactly that. This one really piqued my interest, kiddies. The Colonel's gonna pop this one with extra butter, which I pilfered from that witch Paula Deen.

Superior Spider-Man #1 (Marvel)
Can a rat bastard like Otto Octavius really find redemption as the new not-so-friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Writer Dan Slott & artist Ryan Stegman think so. Personally, if I were Otto I'd shack up with that silverfox May Parker. With that annoying nephew out of the way, it's time to take her to Jiffy Lube and rotate those tires!

If you'll excuse me, dear reader, I've excited myself. Rejoin me next week, for more missives from the Redenbacher diaries and choice selections from your local comic book retailer.

Cheers.
